Nottingham City Homes is using a range of cleaners and inhibitors from Fernox to ensure central heating systems within its housing stock are fully protected. In addition, after the management team introduced a legionella water treatment policy, Nottingham City Homes is also taking advantage of Fernox LP Sterox to protect all void properties.
Nottingham City Homes manages around 27,500 of Nottingham City Council's rented and leasehold homes. The team selected Fernox as one of its key suppliers due to the performance and reliability of its products as well as the valuable support the chemical water treatment manufacture could provide when it came to training and education.
“Many of our heating systems are treated using Cleaner F3, Cleaner F5 and Protector F1,” explained Steve Cooper, Project Manager, Nottingham City Homes. “However, we also dose a number of our void properties with LP Sterox to protect against legionella and dose them again when we re-commission the systems ready for new tenants when moving in to their new homes. We are using Fernox as we feel they provide the best products for our needs.”
A water treatment biocide, LP Sterox is unique in providing a wide spectrum of biocidal activity; effectively treating all water borne bacteria and viruses to help protect against legionella and pseudomonas.
“Furthermore, at Nottingham City Homes we have a very clear commitment to training our workforce,” continued Steve Cooper. “Our new training centre at our Harvey Road depot is a ‘building within a building’ fully equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, wet room, gas boiler and a complete central heating system. This allows our maintenance teams to gain practical experience in a real environment.
“The team at Fernox shares our values in terms of education and they have worked with us to train our plumbing and heating staff as well as housing managers; raising awareness about legionella and the correct application process for Fernox products to eradicate these types of risks. This kind of support is crucial. Working together we can ensure our teams are fully trained when it comes to issues affecting domestic central heating systems and importantly implementing the correct procedures to protect them fully.”
