Saniflo UK – the country’s leading designer and manufacturer of macerators, pumps and shower cubicles – in its quest to encourage the next generation to enter the plumbing profession is sponsoring the prestigious CIPHE Apprentice Awards, which were awarded during the first day of the PHEX exhibition for installers in Chelsea on 14 November 2017. The popular annual show for installers was an appropriate occasion to mark the success of the three winning apprentices as they look to make their careers in the sector.
Saniflo has long acknowledged the need to encourage the next generation to enter the plumbing sector and was happy to become a sponsor for the awards which saw three students gain awards for their skills in Heating, Plumbing and Vulnerability.
Daniel Martins, who recently also took bronze medal in the World Skills Competition in Dubai after competing against plumbers from 30 countries, took the trophy for Heating, whilst James Boyle of South Gloucester College accepted the Plumbing award. James, who is a role model for other students at the college, displayed excellent skills and knowledge in his plumbing assessments.
The Vulnerability award was won by Robbie McNeil from Painsley who attended an emergency call out for a customer on dialysis and dealt with the customer quickly and empathetically; recognising that the health and safety of the public is an important part of the plumbing profession. He has since been back to his high school to showcase his achievements and the opportunities in the sector for hard working young students.
The winners were each given £500 vouchers to spend on equipment as well as their trophies.
Tim Pestell, Managing Director of Saniflo, attended the event and recognised the work of CIPHE in developing young plumbers. Commenting on the awards he says: “It is vital for the sector in the UK that we encourage young blood to come through. The age profile of CIPHE members is over 50 so these talented apprentices are fundamental to the future of the profession including us as manufacturers. CIPHE is creating innovative solutions to attract more people including the development of a distance learning degree in Building Services and Water Management and the offer of bursaries from the Worshipful Company of Plumbers. It is in our interests as suppliers to the sector to support these initiatives as much as we can.”
