EcoTherm products have provided a cost effective flat roof insulation solution for an eye-catching multi-storey development in North London including a new Sainsbury’s supermarket and two storeys of flexible commercial space.

Over 7000 m 2 of EcoTherm Taper-Bond and Eco-Fix were installed on the development in two build-ups designed by EcoTherm’s specialist tapered insulation partners, Building Innovation.

The main supermarket roof featured a concrete deck and to reduce the overall scheme height, the aluminium foil faced EcoTherm Eco-Fix was mechanically fixed as an underlay for EcoTherm Taper-Bond (tapered Eco-Bond). This build-up helped to minimise heatloss and prevent the potential issue of water ponding. The mineral coated glass tissue facing of Taper-Bond also allowed simple application of the fully adhered single-ply waterproof membrane.

EcoTherm Eco-Fix was also used as part of Building Innovation’s tapered ASPIRE solution which was fitted on the top floor commercial space roof. Both build-ups were designed to achieve an overall U-value of 0.15W/m 2 K.

Gavin Harriman, Business Development Manager from installers KGM Roofing commented:

“We were very happy with both EcoTherm Insulation products supplied on the project. The insulation solutions had to channel rainwater around a number of rooflights to set outlet points and despite this complex layout we were still able to complete a fast-track installation whilst also meeting the required level of thermal performance.

Building Innovation provided us with a cost effective engineering solution on an extremely challenging project. Their in-house design capabilities were second to none in addition to them being able to meet our delivery programme.”

EcoTherm Eco-Fix and Taper-Bond are just two products in EcoTherm’s comprehensive range of rigid insulation boards for roofs, walls and floors all of which correspond to the BRE Green Guide generic PIR insulation specification achieving a summary Green Guide rating of A.

McLaren Construction oversaw building work on the development which has been designed by KSS, and the new Sainsbury’s, which employs over 270 staff from the local area, opened to customers at the end of last year.
