British Gypsum, in partnership with CEVA logistics, has introduced a brand new fleet of high spec Volvo vehicles to its logistics portfolio to support its efforts in delivering a safe and sustainable transport network.
British Gypsum, part of the Saint-Gobain Group, is the UK’s leading manufacturer of interior lining systems with five specialist manufacturing sites located across the UK. Safety, health and wellbeing is at the core of its business and in line with this, in partnership with their FORS Gold logistics provider CEVA, British Gypsum, a CLOCS Champion, has introduced a high specification vehicle with best in industry safety features and efficiency to its fleet.
The custom specified Volvo vehicles include a number of enhanced features allowing British Gypsum to transport its products around the country in the safest vehicle available. A lower vehicle ride height for reducing blind spots for example, increases a driver’s direct vision to reduce risks to vulnerable road users and other motorists. In order to achieve this the new fleet is built on an extra low chassis with low profile tyres and full air suspension allowing a lower window line and chassis for driver access and egress.
Other key safety features in the new fleet are an anti-roll and drive away automatic handbrake, leading edge camera systems and a device to support the driver in making a safe trailer couple.
To further enhance safety and efficiency the new fleet also features anti-spill fuel tanks, an electronic braking system with stability control, an adaptive cruise control with advanced emergency braking and a driver alert system to detect and warn of driving behaviours. Additional features include automatic headlamp switching, headlamp cleaning jets, fog lights, static cornering lights and roof beacons, to name a few.
Brian Fisher, Distribution Manager for British Gypsum, said, “As a business we always put safety first and this includes outside of our factory gates keeping our drivers and the communities in which they operate, safe. We have a desire to be the safest road transport network in the UK and the specification of these vehicles and the enhanced training our drivers receive will help us to achieve that vision.”
According to Eddie Aston, CEVA Logistics Managing Director UK, Ireland and Nordics, said: “We have a very close working relationship with British Gypsum where we share the same goals and ideals for the safety of the equipment we operate. These new Volvo trucks enable us to deliver the best possible service to our customer’s supply chain while operating to the highest safety standards and delivering on the customer’s sustainable transport requirements.”
The 85-strong new Volvo fleet will be operated by CEVA Logistics and used to transport British Gypsum’s interior lining systems to more than 3,500 stockists throughout the UK.
